Olympic Tribute To Jamaica
I saw something spectacular today, Three same flags while one anthem played. I saw the sense of doubt swept away And the world in black, green and gold arrayed. You who saw this glory cannot dream all The turbulence that makes dark water pure One flag hoisted thrice is a legend's call It took guts and grimace, and something more From harsh rock she rises, pinnacling green Indomitable mountain, wave kissed shore The fire that drives her flashes oft unseen Look you now through the Olympians door. My soul, an humming bird, splashes aflame And set my joy like poincianna lit Pride spiked by tumult glory of the game In palace of pride let the praise be writ I see a dream becomes a young man A name unknown that rose and never flinched Among medals bright bronze he ran Warren Weir, my soul with pride was pinched But I am watching the little meteorite From obscurity coming to be a southern star Shining like an awesome tiger in the night He silvered there, and nation glory burst ajar For the gold was habit with us now. O surprise At three equals more than just jubilee A category seven storm from Jamaica did rise A Bolt of lightning with winds of glee. Bolt, Blake, Weir, a metereological paradigm In Olympic history, all hail great men, hail Let tower bell rings, and organs endless chime Jamaica, it's jubilee, your prowess shall prevail.
