Lucky Guy
The young man’s voice came alive As he spoke with bubbling joy About the girl who was going to arrive And how he’d loved her since a boy He listed her every quality Shining eyes, hair of silk Figure to make Venus envy Skin like flowing milk Oh that face could light a mile On the darkest troubled night So lovely was her smile So filled with life and light Pausing for mouthful of water pouring He gazed at the café crowd Rapt with his outpouring Full of happiness and proud Refreshed he continued and told Of her laughter like a silver bell And graceful motion all of gold Too delicate and lovely to really tell She will be here on the moment Because here we are to meet He hardly contained his excitement Could hardly sit in his seat “She’s comng now, I hear !” We all heard a motor stop Doors open folks drawing near He shot up and left the shop “Here she is !” he called breezily His voice called to us from the dark The door swung open easily For her triumphal entry from the park Dazzling was the brightness Of the decoration fair And deep the velvet softness Of her cushioned wheelchair Her tasteful sunglasses Hid her sightless eyes And a blanket color of molasses Was her absent legs’ disguise They kissed and embraced And waved us a hurried farewell And the glow on her face Filled his soul with her spell He had the most beautiful girl The love of his life Sending his heart in a whirl And soon to be his wife.
