The Ghost Town
The Ghost Town By Elton Camp When was discovered gold-bearing ore Droves of people piled in, more and more All that was necessary they had very soon General store, blacksmith and a saloon Customers walked the streets with glee Delighted at all the false-fronts to see The town would succeed, ‘twas no doubt That is, until the gold suddenly ran out At another place was found the mother lode Everyone in town then eagerly hit the road All of the town’s plans, hopes and dreams Were gone like a morning mist, it seems The buildings gradually fell into disrepair All their windows and door open to the air Its inhabitants left, seeking a better day But spiders, rats and dust all did stay Now only tourists will come and stare At the town that had once been there
