Be It Any Other Way
The tree stands slightly wonky and the star's seen better days But it wouldn't seem like Christmas, be it any other way With mince pies by the dozen flying off the oven shelf A glass of wine or sherry is a must to toast for health The same old balding tinsel hangs around the fireplace The same old hands just one year older join to say their grace Turkey slighty arid, Yorkshire puddings slightly flat An hour of Mary Poppins in a Christmas cracker hat A plethora of Uncle's, Aunt's and Nan's on stools and chairs Daring to make fools of selves, play games without a care The women blitz the kitchen while then men make for the pub Kids is brand new PJ's, hair and toenails scrubbed A tepid end to what has been a full and festive day But it wouldn't seem like Christmas, be it any other way. 12 November 2011
