The Light of Hope Within the Shadows of Doubt
I sit down to write but I can’t see the light The sun is going down and soon it is night I try to fight off the demons but they hold me at bay I feel like I’m held a prisoner to the words that I say. I light a candle to provide me with a little hope But sadness doesn’t wash away with a little soap Still the flicker is like a mirror to my soul I hope this time; I will not have to go. Most people don’t understand how what was up can be down Everything simply vanishes and there is nothing left around The flicker of the candle glows, yet waivers a bit But much like my hope it continues to stay lit. The light from the candle now dances with my soul I no longer feel like I am swimming in a fish bowl I will just close my eyes and maybe I will see What I have thought, just simply may not be. I start to feel better yet I am not out of the woods I can’t seem to make the transition back to good I’m tired and I would like to have a little peace The voices in my head, they need to cease. All of a sudden I’m back on that hill The fool is beside me he stands there still He tells s me something, don’t be like him Open your heart and then you shall win. I don’t know why this happens it takes everything Something just happens and the birds start to sing I’ve been here before and I know the way out Simply just smile and cast off the shadows of doubt.
