Into the Clouds
I close my eyes and take a deep breath, I’m here doing my favorite thing. Try not to think of the possibility of death. And I always have to sit right over the wing. My heart pounds with anticipation of the feeling it gives me inside. My spirits are in a state of elation. This is my favorite kind of ride. We’ve finally lifted up off the ground. The power beneath is divine. This is the best feeling I’ve found. Now all I need is a glass of wine. Looking down I see the city, growing smaller, with each second. Pretty soon it will be itty bitty, Into the clouds I’ve been beckoned. Now that we‘ve reached 25,000 feet elevation, all I can see is the cloud tops. But if I really use my imagination, cotton candy, into my mind pops. Ok, I’m going to try to take a nap. The engine’s humming always puts me to sleep. I lay my book down on my lap, and begin to count some sheep. In awhile I awake to the pilot’s voice. He’s saying we’re now over the Grand Canyon. The sights out of the window make me want to rejoice. I want to share them with my flying companion. Now I know that I’m almost there. The coastline out the window I see. The sun on the ocean is causing a glare. On the beach soon I will be. Seat belts in place, we prepare to land. Another awesome feeling to me. As the tires touch the runway, we give the pilot a hand, and I chug down my last sip of Chablis. Copyright: May 24, 2006
