It was named after astronomer Edward Halley (1656-1742) One man was born as Halley's comet was passing our beautiful Earth one night in 1835. During his life time he wrote some of the world's greatest novels ever written. His trips down the Mississippi as a river captain inspired him to write some great novels. This man from Missouri knew his subject's very well, 75 years after he was born Halley's Comet paid us another visit, that day also saw the death of this great writer who we all know as Mark Twain.
