Left Alone On the Phone
PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CALLING ME AN EXPERT LIAR AND IF THEY ARE RIGHT, THIS IS PROBABLY THE GREATEST LIE I’VE EVER TOLD LEFT ALONE ON THE PHONE Perhaps the lady who left me will call And then I’ll begin to recount it all All the laughter and all the sorrow And that day may come tomorrow I’ll answer the phone as I’m all alone While I try to be as stoic as a stone Yet within me I’ll remember her cherry red lips And that certain distinct way she’d sway her hips She might be calling to ask if I’d take her back But unfortunately for her I’d recall one fact The memory of promises made and broken And on that call I’d recall every word we’d spoken My heart would urge “yes” but my mind would say “no” Because of the seeds of sadness her love came to grow Planted and nurtured by my tears that still fall to the soil Whilst remembering how her beauty made my blood begin to boil So should my phone ring I won’t ignore it’s demand Because her seeds of sorrow were planted on fallow land I will also recall my life she came to encumber And simply say, “sorry, you must have dialed the wrong number” © 2011.…..Phreepoetree ~free cee!~
