A Soldiers Story
I was born a pauper In the early Roman days When Ceasar was the ruler Of the soldiers and the slaves We lived within the outskirts Of the city life domain Feeding from the lamb And the produce of our grain I grew to be an athlete True of heart and strength of steel I joined my nations army To defend our rulers will They sent me off to Bethlehem To take the sensus toll I counted every head that came And wrote it in the scroll A shepherd and his wife came by Joseph was his name He said his wife was Mary And they need a place to stay I took their names and wrote them down Then pointed to the town I said, "I make no gaurantee I only serve the crown" So there they went upon their way On that December night I finished up below the glow Of something shining bright A brilliant star up in the sky Above the nearest town I had a room there at the inn Where I would soon bed down That night as I was there asleep My eyes were torn awake I felt as though I'd met a king That we would soon forsake I grabbed my robe and took my sword And made my way outside Something told me He was here A will I must abide I saw a stable all aglow Where wise men stood around As well as shepherds and their flock And others from the town I pushed my way past local priests And other sordid lives I had to see what caused the glee Of everyone inside But there was just a manger With an infant in its bed Swaddled in a tiny cloth As mamma held his head I looked upon the moment And I heard the angels sing Glory hallelujah Praise the birth of our new King Rockman
