Runaways
RUNAWAYS My two darlings once pretended to run away. It seemed a good game for the day; But they started to hide in a different way, And ended up lost in a field full of hay. Running away, they found they soon got tired, Then the raccoon was suddenly inspired: A taxi quick and cheap was hired - But little they knew the driver was wired. Police then tracked my runaway pair - Descriptions were broadcast over the air, “Black furry mask, tawny hair: When approaching these culprits you must take care” The exhausted pair were late home tired flat. Raccoon had had to carry the cat. She was always unfit and far too fat. So all day he’d walked , and only rarely sat. He hadn’t stopped in the sun to bask - I just knew, I didn’t have to ask. Despite his criminal-looking mask He had honestly given his all to the task. “That mask on your eyes Ain’t gonna help, nor your sighs, Not even your cute petite size - When your punishment I devise” Oh well, that’s what was said; But my darlings were fed, then put straight into bed. It’s one thing to have a mask on your head; But another to carry a pal who’s half-dead.
