Victims
“Dead man walking”, echoed through the halls, As he passed by others who will join him soon. He sees the witnesses outside the glass wall, While he’s seated in the only chair in the room. Her family sits watching with hatred in their eyes; Waiting to watch him breathe his last breath. Everyone believing his truths are full of lies; Hoping some pain is relinquished with his death. Hating him more for showing no remorse, And not asking for forgiveness, following his crime. The evidence is obvious; he did it of course, But he insists on denying when asked every time. The diodes are hooked up, the hood is applied; He is asked if he has any last words: “I always loved her; I forgive you”, he cried To everyone hearing, his words were quite absurd. They pulled the switch; His body did twitch; Smirks appeared on the witnesses faces. Seconds felt like an hour; Moods were still dour; Knowing they sent him to devilish places. Prosecutors got the news that the murderer was dead And they patted each other on the back; No one ever knew what the DNA report said As the District Attorney hid that little fact. An innocent man died a horrible death, With people who once loved him filled with venomous hate; While facts in the investigation were never given breathe, As the DA had his eyes on the next election date.
