Life Is But a Season
As winter falls into its timely slumber Life begins with the youth of spring Seedlings burst from beneath the ground Anxious to begin their yearly fling Migrating friends find their mates While tree tops fill with birds of song Winter’s rage will melt away Creating rivers vast and strong Smoke rises from a nearby chimney Old man Johnson is baking again The smell of coffee and sweet crumb cakes Expends amidst this wooded glen I remember this peaceful valley As if it were only a moment ago All the beauty that flourished Is now covered by winter’s snow I am not saddened by springs departure All that lives is meant to perish Only to be reborn anew For all to love and cherish Just as flowers bloom and then wither I too have grown weary and weak I have fulfilled my destiny And now it is rest that I bespeak My time on this earth has been wondrous Heaven is calling and now I must leave I ask that you embrace the life that lived Rejoice for me and do not grieve For just as spring will come again If you remember me, so will I Within your heart I will live forever So it is never really goodbye
