Why When We Sleep Do We Close Out the Dark?
Why when we sleep do we close out the darkness, Which comes creeping and crawling within? Still it finds it's way into our conscious, Which fades as the daylight grows dim. We close ourselves off from the nighttime, Behind curtains, blinds, shutters and screens, As we try to forget the day's time-line, And surrender ourselves to our dreams. Surely nighttime is perfect for sleeping, When it's dark outside and in our heads, As slowly that dream-state comes creeping, While we're tucked up at home in our beds. It should be the daytime we close out, We can't sleep while we're facing the light, Since surely the sun leaves a dream-drought, So the best time to sleep is at night. So for all who rise late in the daytime, And for those who will rise with the lark, The question I leave you in this rhyme; Why when we sleep do we close out the dark?
