Dear Old Friend
Whether it was because of a disease Whether it was because of a violent action Whether it was accidental It does not matter The surgeon first began By cutting off your right arm Later came back for the other limbs But you could not be saved Emotions ran high Then the decision was made To end your life I got to you too late I learned about you being Taken away from me After I took a walk And came upon yellow caution tape I wondered what Was going on I looked at the others Trees and was afraid That maybe one of them Had fallen because of A recent thunderstorm So when I walked across The other side of the meadow There I saw you Lying in a million pieces Almost like the sacred crow From the Wizard of OZ My heart was broken I fell apart Laid myself beside you The powerful And reassuring Double trunks that helped You to reach high above The landscape Were flat on the ground It was the first time That I touched your crown It was the first time That I offered you Comfort through prayers But there is no one To blame Because many had Cried when heard That news and we know It would not be too long before Something had to be done for you The tree surgeon Made the right decision But still As large as you were Your love was even larger And if there is a heaven For trees I will surely Look for you there So I will go quietly And dear old friend Thank you for the many years May the soil That you once drew your life from Receive your remains Rest in peace
