Summertime
School ends with screams of jubilance, laughing carelessly as the ski boat is readied for a splash in the nearby lake. Spinning reels whizz as they are hurled into thick underbrush at water’s edge, trying for the big bass that hurdled the drifting log occupied by a family of vacationing water turtles. Ker plunk went the dog as he dove for the stick that was thrown into busy water, scaring the turtles and the big bass; producing screams of shock from wet residue. Under a shaded willow tree, couples take in the breeze and reserved atmosphere with a quaint picnic-basket, talking softly in whispers. Children get up a game of baseball with cheers and shouts encouraging grandpa to hit a homerun. Hotdogs and hamburgers sizzle on the stone fireplace as children and adults patiently wait to savor. The sun fades and slowly occupants meander tired and burned from the summertime sun, lightly moaning. Copyright © 2010 By Caryl S. Muzzey
