Enter Poem or Quote (Required)Required In nineteen forty-nine in the month of November, A gratifying saga occurred that I shall always remember. I was a member of a Flying Fortress bomber rescue crew. God and His Angels also participated in that daring rescue! Many miles northeast of Bermuda on the billowing main, Nine gallant men were forced to ditch their bomber plane. We and other crews were put on immediate alert, To look for them with all the effort we could exert! Pressing on through stormy weather in our faithful bird, From our humanitarian mission we would not be deterred! Each airman with eyes focused on the turbulent ocean, Everyone doing his duty with determined devotion! God's hands were on the yoke as He steered all the way. Our crew was destined to rescue those precious souls that day! Each crewman was jubilant with such grateful emotion, As we dropped a rescue boat to them upon the roiling ocean! The greatest compensation from this perilous enterprise, Was to meet the rescued crew and see the joy in their eyes, Embracing and thanking us for their ultimate salvation, Elated for the further privilege of serving this great nation!
