Bittersweet
Once I heard a story, a long time ago A story that was so bittersweet, it would make your mouth water Your stomach would cringe and your pulse would rise to new heights A story so cruel and true, none has ever been heard before A story of a young girl, so beautiful, so bold Whom took such a daring attempt at life, she was overly loved A girl whom took the flowers for granted and cursed the sky above Such a young girl infatuated with the mirror, she noticed no one She lived in a world of dreams, and X’s and O’s With her hair tangled within her pen as well as her head Pantyhose and mascara overcame her in times of need In time, they betrayed her instead For never once did the sun shine on her face Never did the sidewalk lead her way or scab her knees She wondered, awry, in a world of her own A world that was so misty, a world that often leaves Often did it leave her behind, dragging along Never did she notice, for the mirror was always there Nail polish and carpet stains complimented her well Striking the bathroom door obscene and bare The stars meant nothing, as did the grass There was nothing of much importance except the thought Of plastic spoons just weren’t meant to last How sad… Never once did she stop to see Just picked the rose with thorns and began to bleed Never did she try and love Just decided it meant nothing and blew it off Never did she make one with reality Just pictured life as a living fantasy How despairing it is to live a story as this one How regretful it is to go unnoticing ones own life But if the mirror was to ever be broken Oh, how much pain it would cause, how much strife I remember once hearing a story like this Quite some time ago As the bittersweet words brought tears to my eyes I knew, like her, I had to just let go January 1, 2010
