The Salvation Bell
The wind was blowing snow, deep freeze cold Christmas shoppers were going from store to store It was Christmas time in the city A little orphan girl in rags and cold Watching a Salvation Army Lady in front of a store Dressed in red, ringing a bell for the city The little orphan girl would not have anything for Christmas But a memory of the ringing bell The child begged all day long for something to eat Wondering what the rich people did for Christmas In her rags and hand me downs, smelling the Christmas smell She was just a lonely hungry child of the street Like a strong magnet, the bell;s sound The little girl, it kept pulling her near She dreamed of a warm home and family A nice warm bed instead of the cold ground With each ring of the bell is all she wanted to hear A dream, turkey, gravy and a Christmas tree Darkness fell on the frozen Christmas air The little girl, the Salvation Lady and the bell People were in a mad rush to get home, it was Christmas time Then a moment of silence, they all said a prayer And then back to the bell ringing chime The little girl said, "Lady, I have one dime, will that ring the Salvation Bell"
