Of Roads and Men'
I went for a walk down a dusty road, While pushing a wheelbarrow with a heavy load. My objective: to find a place filled with peace, A new place to call home, where all strife would cease. Soon I arrived at a major intersection' I must continue- but in which direction? Thoughts came to me of Frost's "Road not Taken." What a momentous decision I would be making. There was one road very wide; the other quite narrow. Along came a traveler, pushing his barrow. "Good fellow." said I with a tip of my hat, "Which way to go- this way or that?" Taking a seat, he pulled out a map, Which he began to unfold there on his lap. "The wide road seems to lead to destruction, And the other appears to still be under construction. The broad road is filled with the travelers many, But the rough road, narrow, path seems not to have any." Then he arose, and forsaking his load, At the cross standing beside the road. He moved quite rapidly down the less-traveled way, And he beckoned to me to follow him that day. The way hasn't been easy but I don't mind. I found true peace- and my load is also left behind. Around each bend is a spectacular view, We constantly are finding things that are new. Are you in that intersection today? Won't you also walk this narrow way? Arthur Ball (H.S.L.P.) March 10, 2002
