Vows Ain’t Meant to be Hollow
She stood there in her white dress, boots dusty from the ride, With a heart as wide as Heaven and her cowboy by her side. She gave her word before the Lord, with every ounce she had — To love him through the bitter, and the good, and all the bad. But storms rolled in like thunder, as they always tend to do, And that cowboy found the saddle was too hard to follow through. He packed up all his promises and vanished like the wind, Leavin’ her with nothin’ but the vows she meant to tend. She didn’t want a fairytale, just a man who’d stand and stay, But he turned “forever, darlin’” into “just can’t ride that way.” And still she held that promise, though it broke her more each day — ‘Cause her word was tied to Heaven, not just how the wind might sway. To God, it ain’t just spoken — it’s a bond not meant to break, It’s leanin’ in when hearts get tired and lovin’ through the ache. It’s stayin’ when it’s painful, it’s faith when feelin’s gone, It’s holdin’ on with blistered hands when everything feels wrong. But he left like it meant nothin’, like the vow was just a game, While she sat on the front porch whisperin’ his name. The world don’t see the weight of love the way the Good Lord planned — They toss around “I do” like words writ in the sand. Yet she still wears that memory like the cross her chest, Not ‘cause she misses him — but ‘cause she knows she gave her best. Her heart was in for the long haul, come fire, flood, or dust, But you can’t build a lifetime on a man you couldn’t trust. She’ll heal beneath the heavens, with the stars to light her way, And though he left her cryin’, she still bows her head to pray. ’Cause what she gave was sacred, and what he gave was small — She kept her vow with Heaven… even when he lost it all.
