Maybe
The whisper of a promise The hope of a new dawn The sun rises with curiosity Of what might come along Of who might change the world An elderly black woman sits Basking in the sunlight to reminisce Of a life far from bliss Where pain was embedded in her blood And childhood was an unfamiliar experience Where she yearned for innocence In a world that chased her with guns From young she learned That struggle would claim her Mark her so peace couldn't touch her The screams of death echo in her silence Of family lost taken by violence Funerals became routine Dead bodies had become her new reality She survived the statistic of death She was the last one standing The last one left And even though she kept her breath She became a shell of a person once known Hoping this nightmare would end She lived a life of regret Wishing the world took her instead Embraced by the warm beams of the sun Who had sensed a woman broken By a world that denied her freedom And stole everyone she had loved Though her tunnel dark Filled with the shadows of painful memory She had reached a point where her pain less heavy Her children the light In her world so dreary Watching them grow made her oh so happy Watching them walk a path Writing their own ending Clearing a path to make room for their homemade legacy Built from the hope of creating a brand new world Where every little black boy and girl Won't be burnt by the danger of racism Where flowers bloomed all year long Hoping pain would not linger Where darkness would be freed of all monsters Where equality would become a new normal Forged by the strength of black people Where discrimination wasnt a part of the dreamworld A nightmare turned story of a world long gone Of hope, of peace, of a world illuminated by the stars Our ancestors proud of a job well done Change in the air one everyone could feel A newfound hope a newfound dream The ending of the day The sun begins to rest Hoping the world the woman dreamed of Would finally come to fruition
