Now Alice sits on porch swing wood, beneath a sky so vast, A restless feeling in her soul, a shadow from the past. She's seen the queen of painted hearts, and watched the Cheshire grin, But now she needs a bigger quest, a new place to begin. The corn is high, the summer air is thick with buzzing heat, A dusty road stretches on past the rows of golden wheat. She watches fireflies flicker on, a silent, blinking show, But in her heart, she knows she's meant for somewhere else to go. A whispered tune, a fiddle's cry, carried on the breeze, Tells of a world beyond the clouds, and giant, stardust trees. She spies a moth, a silver thing, its wings all dusted bright, It flutters past a fence post old, and shimmers in the light. It leads her to the cornfield's edge, where stalks stand tall and dry, And there a shimmering ripple waits, a hole within the sky. A whisper calls, "It’s time to go," a voice both deep and low, She takes a breath and holds it tight, and lets her brave heart grow. The air grows cold, the scent of hay is swept away by night, The vortex hums, a cosmic song, a blurry, swirling light. It promises a different world, a brand new kind of land, She steps inside, her little hand outstretched to understand. The ground she knew, the fields she loved, just vanish with a pop, She's in the current of the stars, and knows she cannot stop. The wormhole spins like silo blades, a-whirring round and round, She feels the pull of gravity and hears a rushing sound. She's stretched and pulled like taffy sweet, a-slippin' and a-slidin', Past distant stars and colors new, with nowhere left for hidin'. Her calico dress is rippin' loose, her braids are all astray, Until she lands with just a thud, so very far away. The trip feels like a fever dream, a tumble through the dark, A dizzy blur of galaxies, a fleeting, lonely spark. She loses track of what is up, and what is down below, A traveler on a cosmic stream, a wild and endless flow. She sees a comet, roped and ridden by a tiny sprite, A meteor shower raining down a soft and gentle light. go to part 2
