somebody new
~ She looked in the mirror, a frown on her face, her mind filled with worry and fear The sorrow she wears, she just can't erase, her cheek finds the loneliest tear For beauty it seems, at least to her eye, passed her up as it made its way through She knows it is fact, reflections don't lie, she wished she was somebody new She walks down the street, her chin to her chest. with nothing to offer her joy When then she does see, a calico vest, worn perfectly snug, by a boy "Hello," she now hears, she cannot refute, his smile it could light up the dark "I'm new here in town, I think you are cute, can I walk with you down to the park?" Her heart skipped a beat, this just cannot be, there must be another behind Now peering around, no other to see, at least that her lost eyes can find "Um hi", she replied, "yes, that would be nice," while thinking herself quite a mess "That's great!" he exclaimed, "I've noticed you twice, I was hoping we'd meet, I confess" Well, this made her smile, her heart understands these two, headed off down the way She giggled, he grinned, they were soon holding hands, a beautiful start to the day He said he was sad, they had moved from their home, it was something he hated to do All his friends left behind, how he felt all alone and had hoped to meet somebody new Then he asked, "tell me why, your head was so low, each time that I saw you outside?" She sighed for a bit, then said, "I don't know, I'm not pretty and just want to hide" Then he spun her around, "I don't see what you see, you are beautiful, that is the truth" "Your eyes hypnotize, your hair, like the sun, your smile, well, there is the proof!" She felt her pulse race, her breath quickly leave, her knees weak and feeling quite flush As he walked her home, she tried to believe, that he did not notice her blush When later that night, alone in her room, she picked up her mirror and saw That somebody new, a beautiful bloom, turned out to be her after all ~
