Mom's Top Pick Treasury of Children's Questions, Queen Ant
Early 1980's my Three- and four-year-olds A flying ant flew in one day My tiny daughter was heard to say "Is that a queen ant? Mama, look!" Then cherubic laughter, till brother shook "Thats not a queen ant!" Was his reply Tears of laughter formed in his eyes "It is a queen ant!" Cried little sis As I watched on with a mama's bliss Big brother laughed till he fell on the floor "Then what is it?!" She next implored Mama spellbound and curious Now looked to see what made this fuss "It looks like a queen ant, it has wings! If not, what is this crazy thing!?" "What is it daddy?!" sister repeated As both their parents stood, unseated Sissy upset, nearing a rant Then brother cried "A doity ant!!!" Translation from three- and four-year-old dialect interpretations (Or misinterpretations!) queen ant = clean ant doity ant = dirty ant And maybe, they were both correct. A doity queen ant perhaps, I guess we'll never know!
