If I Didn’t Believe
If I didn’t believe Nothing on earth would remember The heart of me… why I breath Colors of laughter, golden pieces Of a light, shadowed by time A light, softly spelling out a smile A light, more potent than sunshine If I didn’t believe Where would all the pieces of me be? My heart and soul, my spirit’s story In tear stained glass, embraced By the feelings who shatter my life Even though I know, when all is made right His healing will survive my worst fears, The darkness of midnight’s desire If I didn’t believe Life would be all shadows and dread Spinning words of doubt and despair While my tears flood the darkness Stirring up the grief torn mists Suppressing the feelings of a song Blending into the melancholic poetry A deafening storm, all edges and lost Like the ache of a prayer, before it is formed If I didn’t believe Where would I go to find purpose? Even the sunshine couldn’t see Beneath the shadows, the challenge Feeding the spirit, a growing light Reflecting the source of wisdom, the source Of every life… If I didn’t believe I wouldn’t ever see The hope that is living in me This hope is the reason I am content to see Beneath the cross, that place where I leave All my burdens, all my grief Remembering the Son who died for me So that I, once blind, could finally see… He is the love that made me free He is the light that shined for me He is the reason I’ll always believe!
