As Peter, James and John all lay nearby. They couldn’t stay awake although they tried. So, in a sense, our Savior was alone To face the greatest darkness He had known. He said, “Father, take this cup from me If it should be as You decree. Take it please before I drink my fill. But as in everything I do Your will.” Returning to His friends who were asleep, The Shepherd looked at three of His own sheep, And told them, “Watch and pray. The time is bleak. The spirit’s willing but the flesh is weak.” Then, once again, some distance He withdrew And prayed for strength to do what He should do. And with the same words He had spoke before, He cried out to His Father as before. He said, “Father, take this cup from me If it should be as You decree. Take it please before I drink my fill. But as in everything I do Your will.” Again, He prayed the same and then He stood. Receiving strength to do the things He should. Now ready to fulfill the Lord’s command, The foretold hour finally at hand. He said, “Father, take this cup from me If it should be as You decree. Take it please before I drink my fill. But as in everything I do Your will.”
