Dusk dimmed and gave way to the moon, as she took her throne on this ebon night. I was enchanted by movements that caught my eye. Gilded lights that glimmered and glowed, hovering to and fro over the glade. They seemed to come alive once twilight faded, mysteriously moving as if wee faeries were parading all about. An army of diminutive dancers, they seemed to me to be, waltzing beneath a pallid moon to a sweet song from nightingales trilling a torchlight tune. It was a summertime symphony, a serenade in an open-air glen illuminated by fireflies flickering their way to the fen. Merrily, they fluttered in flight on tiny will-O'-the wisp wings Little lanterns in the night sky, luminous kites untethered by strings. O' how I yearned to walk among them in hopes they would alight on me. What a delightful experience that would have proven to be. But I dare not move an inch for fear I'd cause a colossal tragedy. Not one fragile lightning sprite did I want to frighten with alarm nor risk the size of me would bring even one of them harm. Too soon, to my chagrin, I was all alone in the meadow. A sudden cloud burst, and rain began to pour. I found myself wishing the firefly fairytale would've lasted a few minutes more. Gone, the swarm of twinkling amber lights. They'd disappeared in the blink of my eyes. "Fly, little fireflies. Off into the sky." I sighed and with whispered breath I said, "Perhaps we'll soon meet again when you dance beneath a pallid moon."
