Regret
I wish I would have listened to my mom, who knew my heart when I followed lights who glistened, seeking my beloved sweetheart. I wish I would have given generously, with open hands and, oh I should have forgiven that ‘hunch’ who changed my plans I wish I would have loved more despite the insecurities and fears and even when it was a bore I wish I’d taken time to soothe their tears I wish I would have held on when my mind told me to let go because that time has gone as the wind speaks in its soft flow I wish I would have told them how much they mean to me before doubts could condemn the feelings so alive and free I wish I would have said when my light was fading instead of hanging on by a thread my hope, at best, evading I wish I would have known the hope who would change my life, teaching me the way to cope despite the worry and strife I wish I would have stayed a child when I hurried to grow up and when I turned so wild I wish I’d drank from God’s grace cup I wish I would have heard when someone spoke their truth instead of following the herd, who were just part of my youth I wish I would have known true love comes to the one who’s not chasing and when a heart seeks God above they find a reason for embracing I wish I would have known you before I went through so much but because of all I’ve walked through I appreciate the warmth in your touch I wish, if I had a second chance that our hearts would have met sooner than we did, because the dance our dance – I’ll never regret or forget!
