A Parent's Prayer
With what the doctor said still ringing in my head I step out of the room to get some space. I think of what I fear, our mortality so near And my little one, so dear, in need of miracles. In need of grace. I wander down the hall and think of him, so small. He doesn’t even know that he’s so ill. I reach the chapel door knowing what I came here for, What the future has in store… Help me, Lord, to accept Your will… But… Don’t take our baby away from his mother’s arms. We promise to protect him from every earthly harm. You know, Lord, how we love him. I’m begging You to, please, Don’t take my baby away from me… Don’t take my baby away from me. So I sit next to my wife, contemplating life And why it seems, at times, to be unkind. The sorrow and the pain make you think it all in vain And can drive you half insane and you’ll lose hope and peace of mind. I look down at my son, a life that’s just begun And I grieve for all that he will never know. I know the Man Upstairs really listens, truly cares And I know He answers prayers, O let His grace and love from heaven flow…. And… Don’t take our baby away from his mother’s arms. We promise to protect him from every earthly harm. You know, Lord, how we love him. I’m begging You to, please, Don’t take my baby away from me… Don’t take my baby away from me. What we both feared has come. My heart is cold and numb. It slowly and so painfully sinks in. This wasn’t what was planned. I may never understand But I take the missus’ hand and the process of our grief can now begin. We’re told it just takes time. The pain will fall behind But I think on how our lives can be so strange. We live and love and pray as our time just slips away. Do we understand today? How quickly circumstance makes our prayers change… So… Lord, take our baby up to Your loving arms. We know that up in heaven he’s free from every harm. We know, Lord, how You love him, so I’m asking, please… Lord, take my baby to Eternity… Lord, take my baby to Eternity.
