SHERRIFF AUSTRALIAN POET AUTHOR SINGER-ACTOR Letting Bygones Go Words, like coins of breath, so carelessly spent, In moments weak, we hurl them without intent. A sting, a scar, a space between us forms, From thoughtless chaff that through our lips transforms. Yet hear, my friend, the truth that often hides: Our time’s a fleeting stream that swiftly glides. When harshness spoken cuts too deep, too vast, Such wounds we deal with are cast in shadows. Forgive the folly, the ignorance of youth, That brought forth pain and replaced your joy with ruth. In earnest now, I reach for the bond to mend, With open arms and heart, I wish to tend. Come, share a cup where steam and laughter rise, Together, see through clear, unguarded eyes. The warmth of hands clasped tight, the fumbled grace, To find within our smiles a kindred space. And over coffee, as the moments flow, We’ll kindle kinship, letting bygones go. To laugh at shadows, once too dark, too deep, Finding solace in a peace we choose to keep. Here’s where I stand, my regret deeply sown, Amidst the cafe’s hum, I’m not alone. With every sip and each sincere apology, We weave a more substantial thread in our anthology.
