You're Always a Legend to Me
I lost you with the passing of the years; You disappeared into the chaos of life but, for a time, you were the bedrock of mine and the hero of my story. Confused and without guidance, I struggled to establish my identity. Temptation was everywhere, masquerading as a good time. Recognizing my naivety and vulnerability, you offered me the wisdom and experience of maturity. I was drawn to your aura like a wanderer to a light on a dark night. I felt a kinship of the heart and a homecoming of the soul. The missteps and mistakes of youth weighed heavily upon my mind. Kindly and gently, you guided me around life's potholes and rough spots until I safely knew my way. Your love enveloped me like a warm blanket. Patiently, you led me to discover my own worth. Under your influence, I grew from a lost child into a capable woman. You once asked me what I needed from you. At the time, I didn't know the answer. I am finally able to give you my answer: you freely gave me all that I needed. One day I tried my wings and left you, never to return. I was the fledgling eaglet who, instructed by its parents in survival skills, leaves the nest prepared for life on its own. You gave me the confidence to embrace my future. I am only looking back now to thank you. I do not know the ending of your story but you will always be a legend in my mind and heart. March 21, 2024
