DONUT MATH
We have this wonderful relationship with our neighbors who live next to us on our street…. We bring food over to each other…usually something sweet. The other day we brought them an apple pie…(as PI day was the date) The next morning they reciprocated with 4 donuts on a plate. But Deborah was still sleeping… and I thought…these donuts look good…so selfishly I ate one of the 4 donuts thinking… I’ll tell Deborah they only gave us 3. Of course Deborah will never believe they brought us an odd number of donuts No that little lie wouldn’t do… So I ate a second donut thinking… I’ll tell Deborah they only brought 2. 2 donuts, however, made the plate look half empty… I’ll be the first to admit. So I ate another donut thinking… I’ll tell Deborah they brought 1…for us to split. But Deborah knows our neighbors are more generous than that… So…forgetting about my weight I ate the final donut leaving nothing but an empty plate. When Deborah finally woke up… with no way to explain a behavior…so un-redeeming… I thought I could either confess to my 4 sins… or convince her…she is dreaming. So from the dog house I am writing this poem Deborah’s words to me would need a little mincing… Suffice it to say…in telling her she was dreaming…I was not too convincing. It could be my delivery was poor…or my sincerity was weak but I’m betting it was the remnants of the donuts still clinging to my cheek.
