I Wish I had
Line of inquiry: The ego within forced me to resist But now I wish I had effused a love mist With aplomb and flair, just kind of left it there For self-aware souls passing by, who choose to pair ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There’s no guarantee of winning if you put your hat in the ring and have a go. But I tell you now you’ll definitely not win, if you don’t have a go. Now I have been around a while and met all sorts of blokes. I’ve met the ones that are down and out, And I have met the ones that held their head up high and were too good, For the likes of blokes like me. The sort of man who wouldn’t give a pretty girl the time of day, If she said G’day. I met one such man not that long ago. He was quite miserable. Sitting on a park bench, tears running down his old cheeks. I asked him if he was OK. He said to me "lad, I am a lonely old man, life has passed me by". He sat there in a fancy suit, for sure it was worth a pretty quid or two. He wasn’t a down an outer, looked like he might be rich. He told me of his life, I was right. He told me of his mansion, And his fetish for buying classic cars. He mentioned that he had never wed, had no son and heir. That’s when I asked him, (I thought it only fair) , Just why he hadn't taken a missus. He tells me, that he didn’t find a woman good enough, Not that he had really looked. He said he was quite a catch in his day and sent lots of ladies away. He always thought one special one would come and sweep him off his feet. Right there I had to interject, He had the whole thing wrong. Its you mate, that should have done the sweeping. Women expect it you know. You find the one you want , Then you present yourself up for being at her beck and call. Flowers and perfume and jewelry if you are rich. Not doing that is why you were left in the ditch That’s why you have no loving woman or a family full of kids. He says to me, "Lad , I wish I had met you when I was young I wouldn’t now be so sad. I wish I had".
