Ah Greet Oh
AH GREET OH I greet Oh, ye grandmasters of stealth, In your cloaks of deceit nightly seizing wealth. With a handshake, a nod, in dark corners you deal, Your ethics as fluid as your last slippery meal.4 I Greet Oh, ye architects of towering lies, Constructing facades under watchful skies. For every loophole, a trumpet sounds, While honesty quietly in its silence drowns.8 I Greet Oh, ye prophets of the plastic divine, Where beauty’s a construct, line by surgical line. From cheeks to derrières, you sculpt & you mold, In pursuit of a form, that’s bought & then sold.¹² To the saviors of souls, in clinics they stand, With choices so heavy, they shake in their hand. A nod to your courage, in the dimmest of lights, Balancing wrongs, asserting your rights.¹6 I Greet Oh, merchants of our daily dread, Extorting the living, exploiting the dead. Your names etched in shadows, your deals in the dark, Leaving behind, indelibly, a monumental mark.²° Leaders in agbada, whose truths sway & bend, Promises like kites, on the wind they depend. I applaud your ballet, so delicate, so fine, Dancing on dreams, on the thin, silver line.²4 I Greet Oh, each one, my two hands raised flat, I see your game of shadows, where you’ve all sat. For in each shadowed deed & in every part, Lies a sliver of light, perhaps, a sane start.²8 To change, to reshape, to rethink your role, In this grand decor, in this sprawling whole. As we dance, as we weave, in light & at night, May our actions find a move towards the right.³² So here’s to the shades, to the spectrum of life, To the joy & pain, to the peace and the strife. May we laugh at our folly, at our grand masquerade, And greet each new dawn, unafraid, unswayed.³6 *I Greet Oh*, to the theatrics we hold so dear, To the moments we cherish, to what we revere. In jest, in truth, in all that we daily undergo, To you, to me, to us, I greet oh, I greet oh.4° VICK MANUEL POETRY {VMP} FORM: Rhymes Copyright ©?2nd March 2024.
