Culture Clash
I was a college music teacher, engaged in pitch, tempo, rhythm and melody, As lavish planets dance around a golden star, with the zeal of fuchsia fidelity. I taught harmony, vocals and singing, and how to play musical instruments, Like the harmony of redbird's distant calls, entering into sunglow moments. Teaching was thrilling and rewarding, a great way to share the love of music, As roving stars ever return to grape, dusk skies, being apparently homesick. Loving mysterious music as I did, it followed naturally that I loved to dance; And I had a passion for the dances of ago, like the flamingo ball, pink prance. Flashy flowers fragranced fields, when fluffy clouds floated in freedom's folly, On the days that friends and I went dancing, in ebony frolic of Fridays, jolly. Falcons flew far above freesia fumes, when fandango family cruised to town, Fulfilling the fierce heart's fondest fancy, like lavender fields, sunset crowned. I lived in the house of fine arts, among nature's artworks, gold, and birdsong, At the base of a sculpted, red mountain, erected in apricot days, long bygone. Smoke trees and sweet Williams graced lawns, of the saffron, starlit summer, On my street of antique rose sunrise, which sambaed to a different drummer. Visiting neighbors bore nice nosegays, on novel, raven nights of nightingales, Soon after nearby, nectarine sunset, when scattered stars told exciting tales! Dracula orchids bloomed summer sunset red, when white egret flowers flew, As snake-like cacti slithered sunshine, and hot lips kissed a breeze she knew. Pink poppies gave fields a 'pop' of color, in purple days of barn owl's screech. Field fragrances made bees dance for joy, as racoon chattered a long speech. My friends and I were at a club one night, and people were dancing hip hop, When we found ourselves in another scenario, doing the Charleston nonstop! Then suddenly we were doing the jitterbug, in a different crowd and location, All of us adorned in fashions of long ago, as if velvet ticking went on vacation. Soon my friends and I were swinging, like happy bluebird in turquoise breeze; For reality let more dancing strangers in, as yesterday brought it to its knees! I had such fun dancing my favorite dances, in luxurious ballrooms of the past. We danced ragtime, jazz and the twist; and many others made it such a blast. Suddenly, the scene filled with smoke, then a beautiful yesterday was fading; And as blue smoke was evading, we were dancing today, silken now invading!
