Distractions
Confusion hangs in the air like lanterns not yet lit I look around in a daze, as if I have gone astray memories somber, like watercolors flooded in gray, I shrink in the silence that floods the horizon. I am distracted this moment, my mind elsewhere of things I want to do, places I often dream to go - I wish to walk in a quiet street muffled with snow the sky bright as coral, not a smudge of cloud. But I continue to drift in a river of distractions I straggle and flow along till currents cease watch the wind shiver among the trees but see the world in a cloak, not what it covers. I should not harden my heart and refuse the bits of beauty startling even a fawn the sounds of birds singing in early dawn the rush of gentle waves that break on rocks. Blackbirds, seagulls and sparrows dot horizons I should feel alive spreading my arms to fly with them under a stark winter sun looming like a flash of dream but this veneer of frost I suffer in bare tolerance. Distractions hew persistently around my life my morbid fascinations I splurge as a glutton break resolves I keep losing like a button So I go about my life yearning for a lost paradise. @jjote022224
