Dark Choice
Last night, Dark Choice came to Samuel in a dream. Others have described Dark Choice as the Devil elegantly clothed. He is both mysterious and alluring. Samuel felt his peaceful slumber being threatened by this shadowy spectre. The previous night Samuel had dreamt about Choice. It had been such an inspirational encounter. So he wondered “Why was Dark Choice here?“ Samuel could see Dark Choice was quite comfortable in his room. Like the edge of his bed was Dark Choice’s sanctuary away from home. Samuel asked him “Have we met before?” Dark Choice laughed, “Of course, you have entertained me many times.” Samuel responded “I don’t understand?” Dark Choice said “Let me explain” “Do you remember Betty Joe?” Samuel replied “Yes, what does she have to do with this conversation?” Dark Choice smiled “She asked you for help, because her dad was abusing her. You could have helped her but you chose me instead. Mind you we did have fun partying with your buddies that night.” “That’s not fair, I was only 16 years old.” Dark Choice chuckled. “Are you saying there was no Choice?” Samuel felt ashamed and chose not to say more. Dark Choice continued “Never mind, I’ll give you that one. Why don’t we talk about your job? That promotion you got, that was all me buddy. Dark Choice to the rescue man. So what if you took credit for Bob’s research. After all you got to be the boss. You told yourself you’d help him out once you got that promotion. Mind you, I did convince you to pick Sheila for the next promotion.” Samuel felt his face turning red. “Wait, wait, wait, I’ve got one more. Do you remember that work trip to Sparkling Hill? Man, that was a great weekend. I helped Sheila dangle her room key in front of your nose. I even helped her choose that purple dress. Va va va voom, am I right?” All Samuel’s deeds flooded his mind. He had not been aware that Dark Choice had been such a big part of his life. Samuel wept. As he felt his shame, Dark Choice grew in size. He even seemed to become darker. Samuel felt his life was hopeless. Dark Choice whispered… “Take these pills, you don’t need to suffer!” As tears rolled down Samuel’s face he remembered his friend Choice. Choice gladly entered the room and escorted Dark Choice out the door. Choice placed his arm around Samuel’s shoulder. Together they sat quietly. Choice said. “I will stay with you as long as you wish.” In the end it was the Best Choice. Photo from Adobe Stock.
