Taste of Battle
The night is heavy, a gloomy spirit lurks in the stinky mist Death rides along the soldiers, all ready to pay the ultimate price for the cause A sky of fire it is Smoke is the canopy that hides all, only a few stars peek their light as inspiring hope Bullets fly Many men begin to die Worse, a trail they follow leading life no where but into the ground Guns at their side, one by one they become part of history Until its all black Then a light shines in the distance A face takes form, a house behind the smile A peaceful quiet scenery Children run across the field A huge oak tree gives form to the landscape No time to blink So many scenes flashing off and on A crushing heart grows weak His voice box limps he can no longer speak All begins to slow No more time to cry Reality is holding on tight No more life blood taste in the air All fades from color to white Black begins to overwhelm One last flash A life before his eyes He tasted the battle He's dead
