Elfin War
ELFIN WAR In the ancient land of Lonvar, only a day away On the other side of the mountain, it was war Reports of fighting and the use of a magic spell The elves were being dispossessed by the trolls Losing precious ground, and their lives as well Yet few around here knew what it was all for Why such bloody violence, nobody could say News was patchy and we deserved more facts I was assigned to cover that changing situation So up there, I visited each village and their inn Seeking information on the mountain conflict It became quite pointless asking who might win I was met with nervous glances and hesitation Those just arrived, trying to cover their tracks The Lost Black Goat Inn was the last on my list A landlord insisting I try his home brewed beer As the night wore on, secret tales were shared Trolls had beaten elves, but were not yet done The village was under threat and to be prepared They were all waiting scared, for them to appear Then some angry shouting in the thickening mist The villagers’ reaction was surprisingly, mixed Their time had now come, and elves had lost My job was nearly over, and I had to get back To the safety of my town, forty six miles away With crucial news of an impending troll attack And stories of resistance, at a very great cost But worst of all that spell, making all transfixed I can’t be sure what befell those little places Nor the future of the world without the elves A week had passed, and the trolls retreated This town deprived of my hard earned news My boss was reluctant to risk being defeated Our headlines told all to prepare themselves Now we’ve left, and keen to leave no traces
