Dena's Life's Story the Early Years
We also liked to play on the monkey bars during recess. One day Dena's skirt fell off and she was so embarrassed that every body laughed at her. Dena pulled up her skirt and ran for class. She was very much a tom boy and always played with boys rather than playing with the girls. Dena came home from school one day. Dena was on a bus and when she was getting off of the bus, a neighbor boy pushed her into the black berry stickers. Latter on he came over to our home and dropped a bee down Dena's neck. Her mom was so very mad and sent him home. His name was Robert, he was a very mean boy but could he run fast. Robert, was a top runner in the play day's contests. Because we also had a play day at the end of each school year. Dena, also a fast runner she could run the one hundred yard dash and win first place all of the time. Dena won many ribbons for running the three legged race and all of the other running races. Dena loved to play ball with her brothers and her neighborhood boys. She used to play basketball, baseball, and a lot of football. The boys always wanted her to hike the ball but she said "no," and hiked it sideways. Dena and her brothers also ran through the sprinkler in the summer time. One day, her youngest brother and she, was playing croquette. Her brother, Rick got mad and threw the croquette ball at her leg. Putting a nice big bruise on her shin. The following day, we had our family's pictures, and the bruise showed up black and bruise on her shin. Dena blocked out most her young childhood because it was too painful for her to think of. Her real recognition, started when she was sixteen they moved into a larger house. It was like heaven to her. and they had roller skates and skated all night inside the garage. Dena, was sixteen at this time, she liked this boy from first grade, and we moved right across the street from him. That really thrilled Dena! She was up at his place and they were playing on a Pogo stick, when Dena fell and broke her right ankle. Her boyfriend just laughed and his sister took her home. Her dad had to take her to the doctor, they found out it was broken, so he put a cast on her ankle. Then when Dena was getting the mail one day, the boy grabbed her leg and signed his name all over it. She had many casts as the swelling kept on going down while it was healing. She had to have three casts on for that one break. Dena and girl friend sneaked out of their houses at night.
