Barefoot In the Country
I am lightly prancing through the grasses close to my house. Loving the cool feel of the violets and dandelions on my toes. Tickling me, in the best of ways, summer is here! I can feel her! We are getting closer to the back forty; we have reached the railroad ties. Ouch! I sit down to dig out a splinter, and it was wicked. The dogs stop momentarily, look back, then run on. They are used to getting sticks and stones in their paw pads. I feel like a baby, but I am walking gingerly now. The brook is at the bottom of the ties. I immerge my toes in the cool water. Admiring the tiny minnows, and the way the water moves. There are shiny round rocks at the bottom. I begin to relax, feeling nature’s love. A cough startles me. I see the white tail of a deer who has leaped a fence. Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you I think. The woods are putting me into a meditative state.
