How Can We Believe
Body dies, soul lives on For whom then do we grieve If we could see, ignorance shorn What new scripts would we then weave (Contest inquiry) But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit. Suddenly, the curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked and the rocks were split. (Saints came from their tombs and appeared to many (paraphrase)) Matthew 27:50-53 CSB HOW CAN WE BELIEVE The unknown: does it fill up the empty space? Are souls inhabiting the air we breathe? Pinballs bouncing off walls… What if we suddenly heard the curtain ripped top to bottom and found out for sure life exists? Would we think we were dead too? Would we believe our eyes or think ourselves mad? If all the dead arose would we propose a war to find out who controls the earth? We must decide: choose hell on earth or look to heaven. How can we believe with these full-capacity minds that we do not exist beyond the strike of death? What arrogant fools we are to think that we are nothing at all, made by chance! Oft in agony, our grief wonders, first, of an afterlife then is there a system to getting in - can we beat it, mock it, ignore it… Even if it is a gift do we prefer to disparage it? If we saw our loved ones in heaven…in hell what would we do? Our lives, torn asunder… Would we want to join them down under… or surely escape the firepit? With nonexistence off the table would we turn…at last…to God? 4/1/2023 Death of a loved one Sponsor: Unseeking Seeker
