That Could Be Me On the Street
What ever happened to our hometown street. When life was more simple, gentle and sweet. Our sidewalks intended for more prosperous ways. Are now employed as homeless displays. When I was young, I was taught to work hard. Save your pennies, purchase a yard. Gather some love and other fine things. Feast on the fruit your labor brings. They gifted us pizza … as we swallowed their lunch. They loudly proclaimed “How proud and what a great bunch.” Smiled then waved and bid us a cheer. “I must leave now; my tee time is near”. There are those of us that are past their prime. Whose life is now isolated and sublime. We woke up and worked and labored away. and never received respectable pay. I've neglected to mention. They've purloined your pension. They stashed it away-. for their sunny day. Where are our slaves! why did they flee? We’re willing to work, but not for free. We are tired of staring at with people with garbage to eat. Silently thinking that could be me on the street.
