Wild Child
Gentle, like a soft rain Often silent, soothing away Fears that trampled Over my soul, erasing the little girl Innocence With a sense of darkness A kiss of dread, pouring out the Melancholy, the doubt Insecurities looming ahead In the ripeness of a wisdom found At the eve of adulthood, Where naivete and knowledge Faced each other, challenging the spirit To remember how it felt to listen To the gentle, the soft, the voice of a heart Far more understanding and wise Than the one heard now, impressing Upon the mind – details of how Maturity means racing through the teen Years, sacrificing hopes and dreams, Little things that meant everything… Risking the past, the purity That lies in secret, waiting for the time When colorful lies creep in, Revealing themselves in passions Bold and vibrant, creating walls between The gentleness of a woman called mom And the little girl turning into Lonely, aching thoughts – forced to listen To the promises of what will come When there are no boundaries, no rules Only the assurance that life, so bright, Is fortified by a lack of controls, No powers to answer to, no restrictions Just life – lived from following The heart’s laws, Decrees that assume there will be Good in the world, decency, kindness Like the woman who raised her up, Honestly, with the promise of a life highlighted By the love that comes with it… Yet, she would not see – clearly The ruthlessness, the shameless, the corruption Evil basking in the pain, the remorse, Regrets from her – when she refused to Hear the cool, calm voice of her mom And, going her own way, discovering the blackness Of a night so cruel and dark, starless – trembling Furiously – with the knowledge That she had longed for, but had never Prepared for, the knowledge that led her To know the meaning of depression, despair Self-destruction without caring for the heart Who she had followed into this world This sphere of unwelcome disgrace, darkening Her feelings, her faith, her freedom With a reminder that she had to find her way Back to the gentleness, the soothing, the sensitivity One who had been true to her – the mom Who really knew her – and loved her unconditionally With a love that comes from listening To the spirit who brings grace and hope, Poured out inside those who know Him, the One Who fills each cup to overflowing with real love!
