Mirror Poetry
When I look in the mirror at me What do I see? I see the reflection of past memories Insecurities that’s poetry. The weaknesses the strengths the Extra miles of endurance I went. I see a sea of tears my inner child has drowned in day after day, from days, weeks, months, years of negative self talk from the time I wake up, go about my day whether I take public transportation or walk from place to place. I see a young soul that deeply values his personal Space. I see a young soul who values his privacy. I see a young soul who has had difficulty recognizing When to exercise boundaries as well as recognize the power of his own energy. I see a young soul building the foundations of his Assertiveness even if it’s just a tiny seed buried deep not seen. In the mirror i see the anxiety, the many circumstances situations , people, places and things that has triggered The soul staring back at me. I see a young soul who has struggled to find his unique Voice, identity while doing his best to keep from sinking beneath the waves of life in the process of constant renewal, To find and define divine masculinity. In the mirror I see the reflection of social withdrawal to protect my peace and my energy breaking the iron chains of timid. I see the reflection of someone has been way to hard of themself All for the sake of gaining the approval of others, relatives, peers And would be lovers. I see the soul reflection a young soul who has found someone he loved and wanted to build a future with. I see the reflection of a soul who spent so much time in his head That it’s become a habitual ritual to let his mind wander and forget That every moment is a gift called the present. I see the reflection of a young soul who has experienced the void of Silence time and time again. For there was always the reminder that this soul’s reflection was a Soul of few words but still possessed enough words in the vocabulary To create a poetic symphony of my life. So when I look in that mirror I see how my eyes and mind play tricks on me. For it is said and written one must walk by faith and not by sight. So do my eyes deceive me? Do my natural eyes deceive this Soul’s reflection with society’s perception? Lean not on your own understanding young soul. Reflect back To me love, peace and joy. Show me I am more, I am capable, Blessed, worthy, authentic, eccentric. Show me I am limitless, Show me your loving embrace.
