A Note In the Wind - Nw
A sustained note sounded from across the river Carried on the wind, destined for my ear At first, I felt a shiver running down my spine I heard a note from a solitary bugler so clearly. Suddenly I was transported to a scene long ago Where some soldiers were burying a fallen friend To the familiar sound of the military “Taps” I knew the scene well, for he was my granddad. I had searched for his burial place for many a year To no avail, seeming like it was obscured forever, ‘Til I came across the history of his unit’s last raid And following their movements along the river, I came to the banks of the Ohio near Marietta, I was gazing across to the old cemetery square When I heard the plaintive note in the wind, Then I knew my granddad was laid to rest here.
