The Clock
The Clock David J Walker Remember when The seed was planted And you thought then It must have been A clock And it was Remember seeing the Rays of the sun Defying the clouds And whisps of wind and The dirty grit of the ground Conspire to capture the Diffused fire of the sun And turn it all into Life Remember the stims And leaves appearing As if a magic trick you Admired and long to learn the Inspired incantations of a living thing Growing higher Stronger with reproductive powers Remember how it bore fruit And then Gave it up with neither Struggle nor recompense And then…you may remember It was fall again And all the crops Were in As the ground around the stims Grew cold And then...it was Winter again The farm and the farmer grew old together When every plant is plowed Asunder And frost and snow make graves of fallow furrows and remember the promise of spring when all things green appear again in the same ground in the same rows with a new farmer reciting the ancient prose learning his stock and trade of seasons
