(July 2004 to May 2022) --- "There was always something about her eyes." My only maternal aunt said to me. I am glad I was able to be there for my aunt in witnessing her daughter's passing, to attend her traditional Cree spiritual funeral, to babysit her grandchild, even if it was all only for a little while. I never took the time to truly know my cousin. But the more I thought about what I learned after she died, I came to remember a saying: that people who die young are angelic souls. So it all suddenly made sense to me: why my cousin felt emotionally out of place with this world, why she suffered certain events through her life, why her presence and appearance was so special to my aunt. I hope she is free in the afterlife, as well as flying around and watching over her family and friends.
