It's In the Past
The past – it’s gone and yet, it lingers on Darkening the sun’s warmth, yet – occasionally Breathing joy through the heart and soul, awakening Kindness, compassion – inspiration and hope The past – oh, yes – it’s gone, yet it grows Rooted in the spirit where miracles are composed Whispering from the feelings, bleeding emotions Roller coaster rides through the silence, the shadows Ancient history alive inside where the memory Invites bold and brilliant sightings of the long-ago The completed moments throbbing with an ache Melancholic gray abiding inside heavenly lilac grace The past – former thoughts, distraught endings Gone is the fear of a new beginning – it’s ascended Reaching quietly into the forbidden pieces of a dream Leaving only traces of its footprint, its impression Marking each moment with a hesitant sensation, a blur Passions both fervent and still, melted together Stirring appetites for the previous days, the younger Years when laughter sold the poet on joy, elation Miracles dimmed by the nagging urge to forget Where the sunlight began to erase the moon’s wispy Edge, the silhouettes of dogeared formations, clouds Feathery, frothy, floating … feelings neglected, wiped clean No more doubt or foggy hues of distraction, dementia The past – never far away, yet never here in the present day Elapsed from the remembrance of a wish, a chance The promise that abides inside one who reasons with now Eager to rid the immediate of its suspicions, its hesitation Questions still the voice of reason, pray for wisdom Echoing in the ear of those who listen calmly, softly Accepting what it means to reach beyond the apprehension Into the disquiet of abandoned grief, discarded dread The memories that haunt the one who knows that rousing The past – means reviving the source of tomorrow’s ghost Spirit resurrected to remind peace why it feels so dejected The past – utters only the slightest cry, resisting the pain Heartaches that have been stifled by the years – We take those old memories out and press them to our hearts Relinquishing the heaviness in the breathless way we give Only the beauty to those who seek our truth… breaking The darkness with light poured out on one who knows that In memory, even the night has its beauty, its stars and moon The wonder of a celebration – the memory who is truth The past, no matter what it brings with it – be it fears or tears, Is more beautiful, more alive, in the shimmering light of the Son’s smile!
