A Gift From the Faerie King
It is the day of Transmogrification! The Hummingbirds were cheering. I had no idea what it meant, but their enthusiasm was endearing. I begged them to stay and tell me what was going on. Two hovered. I saw that my pink roses had somehow got themselves uncovered. The next time I looked up the hummingbirds had disappeared. There were two green and blue faeries and the littlest one cheered. We are mighty now, she assured the other faerie. Two more appeared. One of them was sporting a yellow beak-like beard. The faeries moved in the way of the hummingbirds now. I gave them a smile, courtesy, some leeway, and a bow. You are the same colors as my hummingbirds I told them. The faerie king came to speak with me, said his name is Jim. We are hummingbirds part of the year, faeries the other. We were enchanted as children by a cardinal’s spiritual mother. If you think I am chatty, you should meet my blabbermouth brother. He then flew off some direction or another. I wonder why they are faeries, I observed, in my mind. We get more done when others cannot see us – especially your kind. You see, hummingbirds are believed, so everyone can see them. But we, as faeries, are almost never seen, said my faerie king, Jim From that day forward I could communicate with hummers and faeries. I also could read the minds of milk cows down in Old Sam’s dairies. Since the faerie king has given me the gift of speaking to animals now, I will tell you that you are being admired by Pee, Old Sam’s prize sow.
